Monarch Festival at the Cincinnati Zoo!

As part of the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden’s first annual Monarch Festival, Kingdom Productions was asked to build a giant butterfly to lead the migration parade. The parade is symbolic of the monarch’s 3,000 mile journey from North America to the Mexican Forest to hibernate for the winter months. Other Monarch festival activities included learning displays and butterfly “tag and release”. The parade was led by Cincinnati Zoo’s COO and parade grand monarch, Dave Jenike.

During the fabrication process, a monarch butterfly flew into the shop and landed on the work table next to the giant monarch print. After being awe-struck by our delicate friend, we knew we were on the right track with the design. He stayed in the shop for 3 days before he finally found the door. The Monarch Festival was held on Saturday, September 21st at 10:00am. If you did not make it out to the festival this year, be sure to make a day out of it next year!
